Providing Specialist Behaviour Support in Ipswich
We provide specialist behaviour support from our Brookwater location.
Personalised behaviour support in Queensland
At Active Ables Community Services, we provide specialised behaviour support for participants who may benefit from a more individualised approach to understanding behaviours, needs and everyday challenges. We work with participants, families, carers and support teams to develop practical strategies that reflect the person’s circumstances, preferences and goals.
Our approach is collaborative, person-centred and focused on understanding the individual rather than making assumptions about behaviour. Depending on your needs, support may include assessment, behaviour support planning, family and carer guidance, or support for workers involved in day-to-day care.
Our specialist behaviour services are provided from 5/22 Magnolia Dr, Brookwater QLD 4300, and tele-consultations are also available.

Individualised Support
Behaviour Support
Behaviour can be influenced by many things, from communication and routines to relationships, environments and unmet needs. We take the time to understand what is happening for the individual before considering what support may be appropriate.
Our behaviour support focuses on practical, person-centred strategies that can be used in everyday life. We work with participants and the people around them to encourage approaches that are respectful, consistent and suited to the person’s circumstances, while keeping their dignity, preferences and goals at the centre of the process.
Functional Behaviour Assessment
A functional behaviour assessment looks more closely at what may be happening before, during and after a behaviour. The aim is to identify patterns and better understand what the behaviour may be communicating or achieving for the participant.
We gather information from relevant people, settings and situations rather than relying on a single observation. This can help build a more complete picture of the participant’s needs and provide a stronger foundation for future behaviour support strategies, planning and decision-making.
Positive Behaviour Support
Positive behaviour support looks beyond reducing behaviours of concern and focuses on improving the participant’s everyday experiences. This may mean strengthening communication, increasing choice, building skills or changing parts of an environment that are creating unnecessary difficulty.
We use what we learn about the individual to identify supports that are realistic for their daily life. The goal is to create approaches that make sense for the participant and the people supporting them, rather than relying on generic strategies that may not suit their situation.
Specialist Behaviour Support
Some participants have behaviour support needs that are more complex or require a higher level of assessment and planning. Our specialist behaviour support brings together detailed information about the individual, their circumstances and the supports already in place.
From there, we can help identify strategies that respond to the participant’s specific needs and provide clearer direction for those involved in their care. This may include more detailed assessment, behaviour support planning and collaboration with family members, carers or other relevant supports.
Family & Carer Support
Families and carers often see patterns, preferences and challenges that may not be obvious in a short appointment or assessment. Their knowledge can provide valuable context when we are working to understand a participant’s behaviour and support needs.
We also help families and carers make sense of recommended strategies and how these may apply at home or in the community. This can include practical guidance around communication, routines, responses and creating greater consistency in the way support is provided.
Support Worker Guidance
A behaviour support strategy is most useful when the people delivering day-to-day support understand how to put it into practice. We provide support workers with clear guidance around the participant’s individual strategies, communication needs and relevant behaviour support information.
This may include how to respond in certain situations, what approaches may be helpful and what factors workers should be aware of during support. The focus is on giving workers practical direction they can apply confidently while continuing to respect the participant’s choices, rights and individual preferences.
Behaviour Support Plans
A behaviour support plan brings key information together in one place so the people supporting a participant have clear, consistent guidance to follow. Depending on the individual’s needs, the plan may include identified patterns, communication considerations, proactive strategies and recommended responses.
We develop plans around the participant rather than using a standard template for everyone. The information is written to be practical for the people who need to use it, while reflecting the participant’s assessed needs, circumstances and broader support goals.
